Troubleshooting Netflix on Smart TVs

If you are having issues with Netflix on your TV here are the most common fixes:

  • Netflix is buffering or showing low quality – Check your internet speed. Netflix needs at least 25 Mbps for 4K. Try using a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi.
  • Netflix app will not open – Unplug your TV from the power for 30 seconds then restart the Netflix app.
  • Netflix is not in the App Store – Update your TV firmware by going to Settings → Support → Software Update and try again.
  • No 4K picture even on a 4K TV – Make sure you are subscribed to the Netflix Ultra HD plan and that your TV supports HDCP 2.2.
  • Audio is out of sync – During playback go to Audio and switch to a different audio track then switch back.
  • Error code UI-800-3 – Go to Settings → Apps → Netflix → Clear Data and restart the app.
  • Cannot log in – Reset your Netflix password at netflix.com from your phone or computer and then try signing in on your TV again.

Conclusion

Setting up Netflix on any Smart TV is straightforward once you know the steps for your specific model. Whether you have a Samsung, LG, Sony, Roku or Amazon Fire TV the process is very similar. The most important things to remember are to set your playback quality to High, set up separate profiles for each family member and enable the correct picture mode on your TV for the best viewing experience.
