Tutorial to setup SoftEther VPN server in CentOS / Ubuntu

In this tutorial I will teach you how to install and configure the open source SoftEther server which is undoubtedly one of the best VPN servers out there.

Installing it on Windows is a breeze and is well documented but installing it on Linux seems complex and frustrating if you are really new and are trying to configure the server from the SSH prompt just to use as a VPN server.

As SoftEther VPN is multi-protocol you can use it with almost any client on any system.

The first step is to connect to server or VPS using the ssh protocol. You can use SSH clients such as Kutty which saves your credentials for easy one step login.

So lets start….

CentOS

yum upgrade

Ubuntu

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

Both the command above will update your server to the latest versions of the applications currently installed on your system.

Once the updates are installed we will proceed towards download Softether VPN server for your desired system.

Visit the following URL : http://www.softether-download.com/en.aspx?product=softether
